A, B, C, D...
It's Sunday. Firts let me return to my last post. For those who find it interesting here is the full name of city of Los Angles. Its full name is "El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciuncula".
Today I'll write facts about languages and all those words making them.
Let's start with the alphabet. English one has 26 letters. The one in Croatian language has 30.
The world's largest alphabet is Cambodian, with 74 letters. On the other side there are those with quite small ones. There are only 12 letters in the Hawaiian alphabet.
There are languages like for example Chinese and Japanese who do not have letters in classical sense of word. They use ideograms...or pictographs. For example the Chinese ideogram for "trouble" symbolizes "two women living under one roof". Well, well....
Words with no vowels. In Croatian language, for example, there are words like „crv“ (a worm) or „krv“ (blood). English language has also a world without vowels. It's rythm.
Check it for yourself...but all numbers in English from 0 to 999 do not have letter „a“ in them.
The only 15 letter word that can be spelled without repeating a letter is „uncopyrightable“.
As to the Oxford English Dictionary, the longest word in English language is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. It is a a pneumoconiosis caused by the inhalation of very fine silicate or quartz dust.
The language Malayalam, spoken in parts of India, is the only language whose name is a palindrome. Palindrome is a word read the same in both directions.
And here is the last language fact for today. This one is from the world of plants. Couple of days ago I ate avocado. I prepared it with some tomoatoes, garlic as salad. It's good, a bit unusual for me. Word avocado is derived from the Spanish word „aguacate“ which is derived from „ahuacatl“ meaning a testicle.
That's it. Have a wonderful Sunday. See you all tomorrow. Bye, bye!!
